Insulting one another is prohibited even if it's done as a joke.
Allah says in the Qur'an, "O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Bad is the name of sinfulness after embracing Faith. If anyone does not repent, then such people are the wrongdoers."

A du'a made by the comedian Hasan Minhaj which was aired on his show 'Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj' has caused some controversy. Ustadh Shabbir Hassan shares his thoughts.

Ustadh Shabbir only commented on the du'a part of the video however at the end of the clip, Hasan Minhaj described Allah as "the man upstairs". Whilst I understand that such a phrase is used in American vernacular to refer to a Creator, no Muslim should describe Allah like that because Allah is not a man but He is the Creator of mankind. We hope Hasan can realise his mistake and educate himself on how to speak about Allah in a manner which befits Him. A reminder to all: Intentions are important in Islam however the action has to be correct as well. - Admin Rafiq
