Did you know? British trains used to have 'ladies only' carriages dating back as far as the 1840s. They were designed to protect women against harassment and assaults.
Many tourists from 'Western' countries express surprise when they see ladies only carriages in Muslim-majority countries yet they existed in places like Britain not so long ago.
They were phased out in the late 1970s at a time where 100 such carriages still existed.
